Fertilys is pleased to introduce Dr. Sophia Bachilova, MD, FRSC, fertologue and gynecologist. Dr. Bachilova joined our medical team in January 2023.
Dr. Bachilova has been interested in women’s health from a young age. She volunteered as a sexual health educator for teens at “A deux mains/Head and Hands”, an non-profit organization in NDG. Dr. Bachilova’s academic career began at McGill University. Following her studies in animal biology (2006-2009), she dove into medicine (2009-2012) and worked in research at the Jewish General Hospital while doing volunteer work. She completed her MD in 2016. She then headed to Massachusetts for her residency at UMass which she completed in 2020. In 2022, she completed her Fellowship in Infertility at the University of Ottawa.
It was during her studies at UMass that she uncovered her love for treating infertility as it was a personal difficulty she went through herself. Dr. Bachilova has two children under the age of 3, both of whom are the result of medically assisted procreation.
“I met Dr. Cheng Wei Xiao at the University of Ottawa. We had a great conversation about the possibility of joining the Fertilys team following my fellowship. She was so genuine and direct with me. So I decided, as of October 2021, to spend time at Fertilys to observe the doctors during their consultations and treatments. Since the start of this year, I have officially joined the team and I am delighted to help our patients build their families.
